In 1998, Wuxi University of Light Industry, the predecessor of Jiangnan University, set up the Science Park of Wuxi University of Light Industry in Liyuan Economic Development Zone to conduct trials of the conversion of technological results. In 2001, to give play to the advantages of Wuxi State-level High-tech Zone, Wuxi Municipal Government and Jiangnan University decided to officially launch the construction of Wuxi University Science & Technology Park in the new zone relying on the key research institutes at provincial and ministerial levels in Wuxi. Wuxi University Science & Technology Park was approved as a provincial-level one by the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Education of Jiangsu Province in October 2001 and as a State-level one by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education in October 2006. After a decade of development, the park has grown robustly with outstanding achievements despite difficulties and challenges.

As a comprehensive incubation base that integrates incubation, investment and operation & management, Jiangnan University Science & Technology Park is aimed to transfer technological fruits, incubate high-tech enterprises, train innovation and entrepreneurship talents, and serve regional economy and technological progress. By far, three incubation sections have taken shape. Section A is located in State-level High-tech Zone and focused on industries like solar energy and precision machinery automation; Section B is situated in Taihu International Technology Park and focused on environment related industries; Section C is situated in Taihu New Town Science and Education Industrial Park, the core area for the city’s government and business development in the future; adjacent to Jiangnan University, Section C is designed to be an important platform for innovation and entrepreneurship by overseas returnees and college teachers and students in fields like food technology, biopharmaceuticals, digital media, creative design, software development and service outsourcing.
